Gather & Grow Tour: Composting & More in Sidney, Maine

Thu Jun 18, 2026 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Join us for our first Gather & Grow tour of the season: taking place at a residential garden featuring three different composting practices in Sidney, Maine! In this year's Gather & Grow series, garden tour hosts will share information about their gardening practices in general, and through the lens of climate change adaptation.

About the gardens:

Tom Vigue and Eileen Fingerman have been growing on their plot of land -- dubbed "Kiwi Hill Farm," after the first fruit they planted there -- since the early 1990's. Their vegetable gardens span about 1/4 acre and consist of 21 different beds, which are managed on a 7-year crop rotation plan and with low-till practices. They have also cultivated many perennial plants, including a home orchard, which features various fruit trees, vines, and shrubs. Composting has been key to their approach to sustainable and successful gardening. Tom manages three different composting systems: vermicompost bins, larger compost piles, and leaf mold piles. Gain some garden inspiration on this tour, while learning a bit about composting and other climate-smart gardening practices.

Registration info: Tours in the Gather & Grow Series are kept free, with support from participant donations; and this year, with support from the Davis Conservation Foundation. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited. Tour details will be shared via email ahead of the event date. Event address is included in the registration confirmation email.
