Gather & Grow Tour: Climate Resilience & Food Access at Rogers Farm Demonstration Garden

Join us for a tour of the Rogers Farm Demonstration Garden! This tour will take place during one of Rogers Farm's work session + farm stand nights. Pizza is served starting at 4:30 pm. Feel free to arrive early and enjoy a slice before we get started with the tour at 6:00 pm! 

In this year's Gather & Grow series, garden tour hosts will share information about their gardening practices in general, and through the lens of climate change adaptation.

About Rogers Farm:

The Rogers Farm Demonstration Garden is a 2-acre educational garden operated by University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Old Town. Since 1994, the garden has served as a community learning space where visitors explore sustainable gardening practices, pollinator habitat, food production, and volunteer service. A core part of our mission is strengthening local food security through hands-on education and community partnerships.

This tour will highlight Rogers Farm’s Harvest for Hunger production areas, where thousands of pounds of fresh vegetables are grown annually and distributed to local food assistance organizations. Participants will learn about our approach to community-scale food production, volunteer engagement, season extension, and partnerships that help connect locally grown food with people experiencing food insecurity.

The tour will also feature our new Seed-to-Plate Internship pilot project, supported in part by the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions’ Sustainability Grants Program. This interdisciplinary initiative provides undergraduate students with experiential learning opportunities that connect sustainable food production, nutrition education, and community food access. Working alongside Extension staff, volunteers, schools, and food security partners, the intern participates in every step of the process—from planting and harvesting crops to educational programming and produce distribution—demonstrating how local food systems can help address community needs.
