August Guided Heritage Walk: Fobbing and Corringham

Come and join our August Heritage Walk! We shall be exploring two ancient Essex villages which include old churches, pubs and a number of other interesting buildings. Their history spans the Peasants revolt, the villages had roles small ports, a small & long vanished railway, and the part the area played in the two world wars of the twentieth century. We will have a visit inside Fobbing Church (although we are not able to go up the tower) and views across Fobbing Marshes.

We will walk at a gentle pace for about three and a half miles on a mixture of footpaths and roads. There is some slightly uneven ground so good supportive walking shoes should be worn.

We will start and finish at the old centre of Corringham on Church Road by The Bull pub and St Mary’s Church. What Three Words ///credit.motel.drill or OS grid reference TQ710833. There is on street parking nearby; please car share if possible. By public transport, use bus 100 which runs approximately every 20 mins from Lakeside to Basildon. Do not get off in the modern Corringham Town Centre but alight at Corringham Social Club (junction of Giffords Cross Road and Lampits Hill) with a 3-4 minute walk down Church Road past the petrol station to the Bull Pub. The nearest station is Stanford le Hope on the c2c Tilbury loop; then get a 100 bus from the station at 09:31am which is due at Corringham at 09:44am. From Basildon, the 09:35am bus is due at Corringham at 09:50am. Both the Bull at Corringham and the White Lion at Fobbing serve food and have toilets.

Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear, as well as bringing water with you on this walk.
