Thames Valley - Trauma Team Leader Course

Course Description

This 2-day course provides an opportunity to consolidate knowledge of high-acuity, low-occurrence (HALO) competencies and review the associated skills and principles required for effective trauma care. Topics include:

• Understanding NMTR and Trauma Networks
• The psychology of trauma team leadership
• Trauma subtypes: Maxillofacial, Burns, Neurosurgical, Spinal, Penetrating, Paediatric, Maternal, Blast and “Silver” trauma
• Major haemorrhage, trauma anaesthesia, and sedation in trauma
• Practical skills including thoracostomies, thoracotomies, hysterotomies, surgical airways and lateral canthotomies
• “Top tips” for using haemostatic gauzes, tourniquets, KTDs, pelvic binders, Ferno scoops, EZ-IO, and Miami collars

The course is delivered through high-fidelity simulations facilitated by experienced faculty, including consultants and critical care paramedics with regular involvement in major trauma.

Tea/coffee and lunch are provided.

Candidate Criteria

This course is suitable only for candidates who meet all of the following criteria:

• Currently working at ST3 level (or equivalent) or above in Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Anaesthesia, Trauma or General Surgery
• Previous completion of ATLS, ETC, or an equivalent course

Course Cost

• £600.00 – CESR Trainees
• £990.00 – CCT Trainees or Consultants
