Art in the City is a vibrant and inclusive outdoor painting 'Plein Air' competition hosted by That White Room in partnership with Gloucester BID, Llanthony Priory and the fabulous people at Period Frames celebrating creativity and community in the streets of Gloucester.

This unique event invites professional and amateur artists, children, and families to paint 'En plein air' on the streets of the city showcasing their artistic talent and love for the arts.

This year’s event will take place on 8th August Participants paint or draw one or more artworks on the day of the event to submit into the competition. We encourage families to walk around the city and discover places and things they might not have seen before to use as subjects for their artworks. The event is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level or background. We want families to paint alongside and be inspired by the artists taking part and so we provide free art materials, removing financial barriers and encouraging everyone to take part. From seasoned painters to those picking up a brush for the first time, Art in the City is about celebrating creativity, self-expression, and bringing about a shared sense of belonging.This year we have a couple of new categories, The Gloucester prize for an artist living in the City and a new student prize for someone in full time education/Uni or college.

Participants of all ages have the opportunity to showcase their work and compete for prizes in various categories, celebrating the diversity of talent within our community. The event will take place across the city with our base this year being Gloucester Docks where people come to pick up their free art packs and where our judging and prize giving will take place. Our event is open to all. Our judges for the family event include Julie Kent Mbe and local artist Lisa Turner.

Tushar Sabale the founder of London Plein Air Painters and ROI award winner will head up our 'Plein Air' judging and artist and former "Art in the City' prize winner Sarah Darby and local wildcard ‘Landscape artist of the year’ participant Abigail Waddell make up our panel alongside them.

Plein Air Competition 1st Prize - £200 Cash / Jullien Half Premium French Easel (RRP £347) + Jullien/Charvin wooden  boxed oil paint set (RRP £215)/  Their winning artwork framed by Period Frames 

2nd Prize - £100 / Julien/Charvin Boxed oil paint set(RRP £215) / their artwork framed by Period Frames

Gloucester Prize (for an artist living in the City) - £100/Goody bag/their artwork framed by Period Frames  
Student Prize (full time in Education/University/College) - £100/ Goody bag/their artwork framed by Period Frames

Family Competition - Free art pack for 1st 50 registered, 10 x prizes for the winners
