Shakey Zimmerman to Recreate Dead/Dylan ’87 Tour at Alcazar Theater to Celebrate Bob Dylan’s Birthday

San Francisco Bay Area rockers Shakey Zimmerman are set to celebrate Bob Dylan’s birthday and his 80s stadium collaboration with the Grateful Dead with a special concert at the historic Alcazar Theatre in Carpinteria, California on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

In honor of the music legend's 84th birthday, Shakey Zimmerman will recreate the spirit of the summer of 1987 when the Grateful Dead backed up Dylan for several stadium-sized concerts. The event will feature two sets—one showcasing songs from the Dylan portion of the show and the other classic ’87 Dead set including Jerry Garcia Band numbers and more Dylan selections.

Led by veteran Bay Area musician Pat Nevins, Shakey Zimmerman has been delivering captivating performances throughout California for about a decade. Drawing inspiration from the world's greatest songwriters - Neil Young and Bob Dylan, respectively - the band showcases stellar musicianship and rich harmonies anchored by Nevins assured and animated delivery. Guitarist Jay Wilcox, a rising instrumentalist in the Bay Area, will also be playing pedal steel guitar at the Alcazar, echoing Jerry Garcia’s return to the pedal steel for the ’87 tour after a decade-long hiatus.

Shakey Zimmerman features a talented lineup including Nevins on vocals, guitar, and harmonica, Jay Wilcox on lead guitar, Roger Len Smith on bass and vocals, Chris Ulep on keyboards and vocals, and drummers Bryan ‘Smitty’ Smith and Chuck Hammel. Ulep and Smitty are Santa Barbara residents who are deeply involved in the local music scene.. Roger Len Smith is a former SB resident traveling from Denver for the concert, which will also feature special guests Karina Dawn Line, David Cowan and Andy Steuer sitting in.

The Alcazar Theatre, known for its beautiful ambiance and excellent acoustics, is a premier music and movie venue situated in the charming beach town of Carpinteria, just south of Santa Barbara.
