Lecture Details:

450 years ago, an artist was born who would bring about one of the most radical changes in pictorial styles through his pronounced use of contrasting light and shadow. He was the most famous painter of his time in Italy, and an inspiration for hundreds of other artists. Known as Caravaggio, his given name was Michelangelo Merisi, but though he had the name of an angel, he was anything but, being a notorious brawler and spending his later years on the run from a murder charge. This lecture will introduce you to the art and life drama of Caravaggio.

About Rosalind Whyte, our Lecturer:

With a BA from Goldsmith’s College, and an MA from Birkbeck College, Rosalind Whyte is an experienced guide at Tate Britain, Tate Modern, the Royal Academy and Greenwich. Rosalind lectures at the Tate, to independent art societies and on cruises and regularly leads art appreciation holidays.

A Zoom link will be emailed to attendees on Tuesday 6th February 2024 after which tickets will not be available.
