Who knew there were so many interesting things to learn in Duxford village? Adrian Powter, who has regaled us with the history and charms of All Saints' Church in Cambridge, will lead us on an insightful walking tour of this pleasant village visiting St John's Church, St Peter's Church, and other sights in the village.
St John's Duxford is a diamond and one of the most notable churches in the county. St Peter's is the same age as St John's but was restored in the Victorian era so feels much younger. It also has stained glass where St John's has none, but is perfectly charming. We will see some of the historic buildings of the village, many of which were ale houses. We will learn the difference between those, a pub and an inn and wander through some of the patchwork of lanes that criss-cross the village ending up at the Community Centre for an optional lunch courtesy of Cafe 19 and Chef Paul. You will undoubtedly see and hear planes which take off regularly from the Imperial War Museum, so there will be something for everyone!
The entire walk is approximately 1.25 miles with 3 lengthy sit down stops. We will be walking on mostly flat ground, but sensible walking shoes are recommended as we may stray onto the grass at the churchyards.
