Day 1 on Thursday 27th October 2022 with Ian Swankie:

• Being Victorian: What was it like to be a nineteenth century citizen.

• How the railways changed the nation.
• New inventions: Some of the thousands of new developments and inventions

Day 2 on Wednesday 9th November 2022 with Giles Ramsay

• How the theatre reflected the ever changing nation.
• Continental influences: Ibsen, Strindberg, Chekhov
• Oscar Wilde: How his stories and plays charmed the world.

Day 3 on Wednesday 23rd November 2022 with Julian Halsby

• The Pre-Raphaelites: A Victorian avant garde.
• Victorian social realism
• Heroes and rebels

Day 4 on Wednesday 25th January 2023 with Matthew Williams

Architecture: 

• Building for a new age
• Buildings for everybody: from the cradle to the grave.
• Homes for the rich, homes for the poor

Day 5 on Wednesday 22nd February 2023 with Elizabeth Merry

• The life and works of Charles Dickens
• The young Brontes and art: Visual influences on their creative development.
• The world of Thomas Hardy seen through the paintings of Henry Moule and Walter Tyndale.

Day 6 on Wednesday 22nd March 2023 with Suzanne Fagence Cooper

The Victorians at Home:

• Christopher Dresser: Pioneer of Modern Design
• At Home with Jane and William Morris
• Women and the Victorian home.

The lectures start at 10:15 and finish at approximately 3pm.

The fee for the 6 day study course is £180.00
