Course Overview
The Athletic Skills Model (ASM) provides a comprehensive, evidence-based framework for developing skilful and versatile movers across the lifespan. Grounded in motor-learning science (constraints-led approach, non-linear pedagogy, ecological dynamics, physical literacy, and implicit learning), the ASM integrates three core building blocks—Fundamental Movement Skills, Coordinative Abilities, and Conditions of Movement—to design non-linear, transferable, and developmentally rich movement programmes, including PE curriculum, schemes of work, lesson plans and sports training programmes.
The ASM Advanced course Level 1 is the first of three progressive levels leading to full ASM Advanced Instructor certification.
The Level 1 course introduces the ASM vision and key concepts, including the first building block: the Fundamental 10 and the Concentric Approach. Grounded in contemporary movement science, this course equips practitioners, including sports coaches (elite and community), PE teachers, physiotherapists, and dance/fitness/outdoor instructors, to embed the ASM within their own movement programmes to enhance performance, reduce risk injury, increase creativity, and foster long-term engagement in sport and physical activity.
Two Pathways – One Integrated Course
The programme contains two practitioner-specific strands:
-
ASM Advanced Instructor (sports coaches and multi-sport practitioners, including S&C coaches and physiotherapists)
-
ASM Advanced PE (PE teachers and school-based practitioners)
All participants complete the shared core curriculum; at key points, groups split to work within their own professional context.
