From Studio to Showcase: Preparing for Exhibitions & Professional Artist Practices

This workshop is designed for emerging and aspiring artists looking to navigate the professional art world confidently. We’ll cover how to find and apply for exhibitions and open calls, prepare a strong artist portfolio, write compelling artist statements and bios, and build professional habits that help create long-term opportunities. Participants will leave with practical tools, resources, and actionable steps to help them grow their art careers.

About the host:

Eanaj Janae is a self-taught, multidisciplinary visual artist born in Southern California and based in Atlanta, working in painting, mixed media, textiles, and sculpture.

Janae is primarily a painter working in paint on canvas, with experiments extending into glass, mirror, and textile, often incorporating recycled and reclaimed material. She translates thoughts, feelings, and experiences that are often unseen, difficult to express, or forgotten into physical form — a practice she is expanding into installation.

Her evolving practice is grounded in curiosity, vulnerability, and storytelling. Through layering, texture, and unexpected materials, she considers how internal experience — memory, joy, faith, connection — can manifest physically, drawing on family, heritage, and childhood as source material.

Janae's exhibition history includes Release Me at the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum and Psychedelic Garden, a group show she curated at Bookstore Gallery. She is the author of Color My Soul and collaborated with the Los Angeles Sparks on the public launch of the team's new jersey. She continues to build her practice through artmaking, publishing, and curation.

Her work invites viewers to recognize, reflect on, and connect with what often exists beneath the surface — creating space for what is felt internally to be seen and held.

🚪 The secondary entrance is through a residential courtyard. Enter through the black metal gate on the side of the Otto's building from the parking lot (at N. Highland and Blue Ridge). Be quiet when leaving events after dark, as this is a residential courtyard. Note this entrance has a few stairs.

♿️ Need no stairs? We got you! Follow the signage from the Otto's parking lot leading you to our back entrance. If you have any issues, please call The Supermarket team (404) 458-1738.

• Limited Parking spots in front of The Shops at Otto's on N. Highland Ave. Must register with ParkMobile. Free for 1 hr before 6pm. Paid after 6pm. (Zone# 3241)
• Small lot beside Otto’s Apartment Hotel at N. Highland and Blue Ridge. Must register with ParkMobile. (Zone# 3240). Do not park in 'resident only' spots.
• Public lot at N. Highland and Ponce (behind and in front of Plaza Theatre). "Scan to Pay" signs. Mon-Sat: 7am-10pm. Free for 15 min. $5 for 1hr, +$1 for each additional.
• Six-story deck at 675 N. Highland Ave NE. $5-$6 for up to 2hr, +$1 for each hr added. $14 daily max.
