14:30 Bias in conducting security risk assessments; what are the dangers security professionals should avoid?
Risk assessments and especially security risk assessments are often based on predictive human judgment. The professionals, on whose judgement the security in organizations and society is depending, are however prone to systematic errors, so called biases. Although a lot of these biases are identified since decades their effect on security risk assessments was, until recently, not studied. During the last years the Safety and Security Science Group of Delft University of Technology committed a PhD research program to study security risk assessments of professionals working in the security domain. During this presentation a summary of the results is presented, and the audience will participate in several live experiments exploring their own vulnerability to biases.
15:00 The value of in-person events in the digital age
During the pandemic, hybrid and online event formats made content much more widely accessible than before and at much lower cost. However beneficial this development is, employers should keep sending their teams to physical events. This talk will explore the unique value in-person events offer and how event design is evolving to deliver a superior attendee experience.

15:45 Trafficking in human beings: a form of modern slavery
Trafficking in human beings or human trafficking is a devastating crime with high profits and severe consequences for victims. It involves the exploitation of another person. This is done using one or more forms of coercion, such as violence, blackmail or abuse of the victim’s vulnerability or dependence. Trafficking not only takes place for the purpose of sexual exploitation, but labour exploitation, criminal exploitation and forced removal of organs are other forms of trafficking.
Human trafficking occurs in many different sections of society and often goes undetected. Victims find it difficult to talk about what has happened to them, and they are often threatened, blackmailed or ashamed of what happened.
As National Rapporteur Conny Rijken researches the nature and scale of human trafficking in the Netherlands and issue recommendations on how to improve the comprehensive approach to combat human trafficking. In this presentation she will inform the audience on this devastating crime, her work as national rapporteur and member of the Council of Europe expert group GRETA.
