Biz Club Lunch with David Thompson - The World in 2026: Markets, Politics and the Rise of AI

David Thompson is an Economics graduate who has worked in The City for over 40 years.

David started his career, with phones stuck to each ear as a trader at Lehman Brothers, although he wasn’t entirely to blame for its collapse, having left before it failed.

David then moved into Asset Management, before finally getting a proper job as Chief Investment Officer at an international insurance company. He manages £25 billion in markets around the world and is fortunate to work in an environment where he can still learn from fascinating people.

David has enjoyed the theatre since an early age and can still be seen over “acting” on the stage at his local theatre. He enjoys nature and has managed to combine this passion with his investment job.

David will discuss his take on the state of the world in 2026 and beyond. He will discuss global politics, the world markets and how to make sense of the growth in AI.

There will likely be the odd anecdote of how The City has changed over the last forty three years.
