JAZZGate: The Music of Aengus Hackett!
Curated by Aengus Hackett Music, the #JAZZGate Series pays tribute to the greatest jazz artists and composers of all time,
as well as featuring local and visiting musicians - celebrating the absolute cream of the Irish Jazz scene.
We are delighted that JAZZGate will run weekly up until the end of the year.
Departing slightly from the usual format, this concert will be an extra special one, and will feature new music by Aengus Hackett..
Aengus Hackett has assembled a new trio with two of Ireland's finest jazz musicians. Masterful improvisers, Derek Whyte and Matthew Jacobson are an integral part of the faculty for DCU's BA in Jazz and Contemporary Music Performance, and both are members of ReDiviDeR (winners of the Cork Jazz Festival ‘Best Young Artist Award’).
Between the three of these musicians, they have worked with a plethora of international artists such as:
Kit Downes (UK), Ralph Alessi (US), Theo Bleckmann and Nils Wogram (DE), Sanem Kalfa, Tommy Halferty, Conor Guilfoyle Ensemble Ériu and UMBRA.
Aengus Hackett has written music for a range of groups such as Amsterdam-based DINOSAUR and post-rock group Zinc. About to release a debut EP of electronic music, Aengus' skills as a composer are diverse. For this group, he has written an entirely new programme of compositions.
