JAZZgate Thursday 17th October 2019
Curated by Aengus Hackett Music, the #JAZZGate Series pays tribute to the greatest jazz artists and composers of all time,
as well as featuring local and visiting musicians - the absolute cream of the Irish Jazz scene.
We are delighted to announce that JAZZGate will run weekly up until the end of the year.
This special edition of JAZZGate will feature a wonderful duo of musicians (and siblings), hailing from Headford:
Naomi Berrill is an cello player and singer, currently based in Florence where she works as a freelance musician.
After classical studies Naomi started a solo project for cello and voice and so far she has collaborated with cellist Giovanni Sollima, New York City Ballet, Crash Ensemble, writer Stefano Benni and many dance and theatre groups such as Virgilio Sieni who is the current director of the Biennale Danza in Venice.
She has been cellist with the Indaco String Quartet, she is singer, guitarist and concertina player with the Celtic Folk group 'The Clover Ensemble' and she performs regularly with various Chamber Ensembles including Fontana Mix (Bologna) Musicamorfosi (Monza),and Alter Ego (Rome). In july 2009, she worked on a collaboration with NewYork City Ballet for cello, electronics and dancers, which had its premier at the Spoleto Festival (Italy). She has been member of the Orchestra dell' Università Statale in Milan and the contemporary ensemble of the Fondazione Musica per Roma.
Matthew Berrill is no stranger to JAZZGate audiences..A stalwart of the Galway Jazz Festival team, Matthew's experience as a musician beggars belief.
He graduated with a Masters Degree in Music Performance in May 2010, where he specialised in jazz saxophone, clarinet and composition, studying with John Ruocco at the Royal Conservatoire, Den Haag, The Netherlands.
