DJing stalwarts of more than 50 (combined) years between them, Hobbes and The Nightlark go back to back for the first time in aeons, to launch Tokyo maverick Kota Motomura's genius debut album on the Hobbes Music record label.
Pay It Forward LP (HM017LP) [DISCO, HOUSE, AMBIENT, BALEARIC] by Kota Motomura
Already winning fans worldwide, the album follows Motomura's much-loved New Experience EP, which came out via HM in 2019 (with Kota Motomura fans including Bill Brewster, Horse Meat Disco, Tim Sweeney, Bawrut, Red Rack'em, Tom Ravenscroft, Leo Mas, Nick The Record, Phil Mison and many more).
'New Experience' EP (HM012) - Bonus Tracks on DL [HOUSE, JAZZ, AMBIENT] by Kota Motomura
Hobbes first met The Nightlark some 15+ years ago, when the latter booked him for one of his nights at Snafu in Aberdeen. Better known as Giles Walker, The Nightlark was triumphantly representing every buzzing music scene making ripples in the UK, while Hobbes was making a name for himself via his Trouble parties (Runners Up at Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Awards) and starting to tour more broadly.
Sharing a passion for exciting new sounds plus weird and wonderful music from across the globe, they regularly played back-to-back (alongside Erik d'Viking) at Trouble's 'Devil Disco Club' (old Bongo, Moray House), before Hobbes put regular events on ice to focus on his fledgling label (2013).
Now almost 10 years and 20 releases deep (it's about quality not quantity), the label boasts its own fans from across the board, not least for Hobbes' own productions and vinyl releases alongside Leonidas, the last two of which have caused a particular stir on the international Balearic scene, one being crowned Bill Brewster's Record Of The Year:
'The Rags Of Time' EP - 2 Bonus Mixes on DL (HM008) [DISCO, HOUSE, DUB] by Leonidas & Hobbes
And latterly gaining plaudits & plays from daytime BBC 6Music (alongside other props):
'Aranath' EP - 3 Bonus Mixes on DL (HM015) [AMBIENT, DEEP HOUSE, TECHNO] by Leonidas & Hobbes
Expect international soulful sounds from both.
Past guests include: Mr Bongo, Athens of the North, Mukatsuku Records, Rebecca Vasmant, David Barbarossa…
