Tiffany Murray - My Family and Other Rock Stars
Sun 6 Oct 2024 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Description
We're very chuffed to welcome the "sublime" (The Guardian) memoirist Tiffany Murray to the Book Bash — as she'll be bringing a suitable dollop of Rock'n'Roll to Mannington...
Tiff had an extraordinary childhood growing up at the legendary Rockfield Studios in the 70s, rubbing shoulders with rock and roll legends. Her mother was hired as the resident Cordon Bleu chef for Rockfield — while she was convincing Black Sabbath to try eating fish and getting Lemmy from Motorhead to eat anything (he’d only drink Jack Daniels), Tiff was able to treat the Rockfield as her playground. She roamed free, sneaking into recording studios where legends like Queen were recording some of their biggest hits (including Bohemian Rhapsody) — and witnessed Iggy Pop having a food fight with Simple Minds.
My Family and Other Rock Stars s a warm, nostalgic and truly wonderful memoir — it’s about music, food and family, and the relationship between Tiff and her mother Joan is extraordinary. Each chapter is bookended by a section from Joan with her own reminiscences, complete with brilliant recipes she cooked at the time — think very 70s, very nostalgic food, including pike quenelles and jellies.
Tiffany will be in conversation with Punk memoirist Ali Smith, author of the fantastic The Ballad of Speedball Baby — about her time in the New York scene — which was released earlier this year.
