We're delighted to welcome local author Dawn Hemmings to The Book Stop on Saturday 26th September.
Dawn will be popping into the bookshop to chat about her book, The Man I Knew as Grandad, answer your questions, sign and sell copies, and meet fellow book lovers.
The Man I Knew as Grandad tells the remarkable wartime story of Dawn's grandfather, Arthur Hemmings. Drawing on personal letters, military records and family memories, Dawn has pieced together the story of his capture, his time as a prisoner of war in Italy, and his experiences of escape and survival.
One reader said:
"I loved reading all the letters and I could feel the emotion and desperation from your grandad wanting to know everyone was OK. I now realise how emotional it must have been for you visiting the camps. You should be really proud that you have captured that snapshot of your grandad's life in a book for future generations to read. I loved it."
Whether you're interested in family history, the Second World War, or are simply discovering Dawn's writing for the first time, we'd love you to come along for a relaxed and friendly morning.
There’s no formal presentation and no need to arrive at a particular time – simply pop into the shop anytime between 11.00 and 1.00, have a browse and come and meet Dawn.
As always at The Book Stop, there'll be complimentary tea, coffee and, of course, our famous Chocolate Crunch.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday 26th September.
