Working with children and young people can be one of the most rewarding aspects of coaching, but it also brings a unique set of challenges. This engaging and interactive training day will explore the realities of coaching young riders in today's equestrian environment, including managing parental expectations, navigating the influence of social media, and understanding the emotional pressures and wellbeing challenges that many young riders face.

Throughout the day, we will examine a range of coaching scenarios, from teaching young riders in group settings to working with individuals on their own horses, as well as school clients riding unfamiliar horses. We will discuss practical strategies to help coaches build confidence, resilience, communication skills, and positive learning experiences for young equestrians, regardless of their riding background or goals.

Suitable for any coach currently working with children and teenagers, whether in riding schools, Pony Clubs, Riding Clubs, or with private clients, this training day will combine classroom-based theory, discussion, and reflection with practical coaching sessions. Attendees will leave with a greater understanding of the needs of young riders and a toolkit of approaches to help them create safe, supportive, and effective coaching environments.

We are extremely lucky to welcome Jo Winfield FBHS to deliver this informative training day which will be focusing on what to look for and work on with the young equestrian. Jo has not only achieved the highest accolade of the BHS: Fellowship of the BHS, she is also one of our chief BHS Assessors, a BHS Inspector as well as a British Eventing Coach and a List 3 British Dressage Judge. Jo has been awarded a Professional Doctorate in Sport and Exercise (PDSE) and is an Equine Principle Lecturer at the world renowned Hartpury University in Gloucestershire.

This event is open to BHS coaches and non BHS coaches, trainers, students, and interested horse owners/riders.

The day is planned to be a mixture of theory and practical workshops and is sure to be informative and interactive, with plenty of opportunity for questions and to discuss what we observe.

£45 BHS APCs (MUST provide current APC number at time of booking)

£50 General Admission (anyone who is not a current APC)
