Thu 27 Mar 2025 6:15 PM - 7:00 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
This event is part of our Sussex Research series. In this series, University of Sussex PhD students and Post-Docs are invited to share their exciting research with the Buzz Club, providing new information on the animals you share your garden with.
Join Dr. Cannelle Tassin du Montaigu to learn about how treating your pets for fleas has a negative effect on local garden bird populations!
Cannelle is a post-doctoral researcher specialising in ecotoxicology and conservation ecology. Previously, her work investigated the impact of pesticides on wild birds, with both an agricultural and garden approach. She examined which pesticides were applied on UK farmland and in which quantities to estimate the potential toxicological risk of exposure to birds. Her work also covered the use of pesticides in private gardens and how this influences bird abundance and richness. You can read some of Cannelle's previous publications on the Buzz Club website here: https://www.thebuzzclub.uk/publications
Her current research focuses on the impact of veterinary drugs (such as spot-on treatments( on the health of nesting tits. In this talk, Cannelle will be talking about her research and latest findings on the prevalence of veterinary drugs in bird nests.
