Crywank was started in Manchester in 2009 by James Clayton as a solo project despite having no previous experience playing guitar. The project started the night Clayton learnt their first two chords and wrote their first two songs (Welcome to Castle Irwell, Thomas Saunders Gang Chant). Lyrically focusing on the end of their first relationship whilst contending with moving away, and musically heavily influenced by American folk punk and anti-folk, their first album ‘James is Going To Die Soon’ became a cult favourite on the internet, both for its charm and many flaws. After their first release Crywank began to play with and subvert the role of singer songwriter. Shifting the focus from self-pity to self-criticism and fluctuating between hard-hitting confessionals to tongue-in-cheek deconstructions resulted in Crywanks paranoid ‘sad-but-fun’ sound. Dan Watson (ex-GNOD, Denim & Leather) joined the band in 2012 on percussion and began to implement approaches and influences not often seen within ‘anti-folk’, at points going into d-beat and blastbeats. Crywank have since self-released six records and have amassed a dedicated following online. Despite being self-managed and their name getting in the way of radio play or press coverage, Crywank have had over 30 million streams and have toured internationally. Crywank announced they will be breaking up in June 2020, embarking on a self-booked world tour and recording one more album before they do.

It is no longer required to wear a mask at our live shows. We're excited to see all your smiling faces again! If wearing a mask makes you feel more comfortable in our space, we encourage that and will support you in your decision.

Ticket Refund Policy:

Ticket buyers can request a refund (before the date of any performance) with one exception, the payment processor will withhold a service fee of 5% from total ticket price. The refund will be issued to the original method of payment used at time of purchase. If an event is rescheduled or canceled ticket buyers will be notified with options including a refund. Refunds are subject to the 5% payment processor fee.

Accessibility & safety notes:

- The Cap patio requires climbing 4 stairs, and the Wilser's Room/Nest Patios require climbing a full set of stairs. The CAP record store / venue is accessible during daytime hours and nighttime events through the Queen Street entrance. Ground floor washrooms can be accessed in this space. Wilser's Room washrooms require climbing an additional 6 stairs.

- Events in the Tannery parking lot are gated, accessible at ground level, and are typically accessible to all ages (determined per event). Washrooms can be accessed through the fire exit of the CAP (right side of the building facing King street), through the King street entrance of Klub Krome. There are also occasions in which porta potties are present at these events, located close to the performance area.

- If you use a wheelchair or walking aid, please e-mail booking.thecap@gmail.com the day before the show so we can prepare adequate space for you.

- Washrooms are gender inclusive (femme/non-binary and masculine/non-binary). Patrons are encouraged to use whichever washroom they feel most comfortable in, and will have the support of our staff in using the washroom of their choosing.

- The Cap Safer Spaces policy is in place for the duration of the event. Should you feel unsafe at any time, please speak with any staff member or email booking.thecap@gmail.com

- Pets are not allowed during events, to ensure the comfort and safety of the animals. Service animals allowed with proper verification and demarcation.
