Trainer Month: How to use e-learning in CL

Throughout October we'll be gathering online for 'Trainer Tuesdays', to share best practice and top-tips from experienced Carbon Literacy Trainers (CLT), Consultants (CLC) and members of The Carbon Literacy Project team. There will be short presentations from our speakers and a panel discussion with plenty of time to ask questions.

In the second week of October, we'll be looking at 'How to use e-learning in CL.' We will be hearing from trainers who have developed their own e-learning platforms and from our Learning and Innovation Coordinator at the Project, Tony Johnson. We'll be thinking about the following questions-

• Where has e-learning been successful?
• What are the benefits for learner & trainer?
• Top- tips for making it engaging & clear
• How to combine with group enquiry

We will compile the resources and tips shared during the event into a handout and send it to attendees afterwards.

This event is free of charge for certified Carbon Literacy Consultants (CLC) and Carbon Literacy Trainers (CLT)

To support the work of the Project and the Trainer Network, tickets for Carbon Literacy Facilitators (CLF), informal trainers or those interested in delivering Carbon Literacy are £10 per trainer month event or £30 for access to all events in this series. You'll be sent the joining link for the event, the day before it takes place.

👋 Meet our speakers  

Tony Johnson 

With an MSc in Food Security from the University of Glasgow, Tony’s previous work has focused on the food and drink sector, where he developed sustainability reports and life cycle assessments that help identify the areas where carbon reductions can be made across a product or service’s entire value chain. As a passionate cyclist, Tony has previously delivered courses as a Carbon Literacy Facilitator and developed courses for outdoor and sporting communities, allowing him to be an advocate for change amongst his peers. He enjoys being able help people understand the latest climate science by relating it directly their own lives and communities.

Ruth James 

After developing the first Carbon Literacy Automotive Toolkit with Autotrader's funding and support 5 years ago, Ruth has delivered over 60 sessions to the sector. Each session brings a new perspective to the challenges and opportunities presented within automotive, with learners consistently contributing novel ideas. As the sector continues to transition she is inspired by the outcomes of each session and excited to see where we will be in another 5 years.

Lucy Faller-Mead

As a lecturer in Initial Teacher Training Lucy is committed to embedding sustainability education into the Further Education Sector, completing training with both ISEP and The Carbon Literacy Project. She has delivered Carbon Literacy training throughout West Suffolk, including across the diverse range of courses at West Suffolk College as well as to large local businesses and a range of local community groups including, museums, cathedral and employability courses at local community centres across Suffolk. 

In 2025 she created an online Carbon Literacy course designed for all apprenticeship students at West Suffolk College, which has also proved popular with a wide range of learners. Lucy and the sustainability team at West Suffolk College achieved the Carbon Literacy Educator Bronze Award in 2025 for their work embedding Carbon Literacy Training across college curriculum and to the local community. 

Jamie Saye

Jamie is the co-founder and executive director or SAIL, a not for profit that supports the creative and cultural industries with environmental sustainability. He is also one of the first certified Carbon Literacy trainers, delivering Carbon Literacy since 2018. He has trained over 2000 people across the creative and cultural industries, including theatres, TV and Film production companies, festivals, museums and galleries, heritage organisations and more.
