Ink Trails Club: Fall 2026

Fri 23 Oct 2026 12:00 PM - Mon 30 Nov 2026 3:00 PM Various trails across GTA East (Scarborough, Durham, Markham, North York)

Were you also an avid reader growing up and then adulthood interrupted? Or maybe you’ve never really been a reader but want to try. Maybe you’re a writer who struggles to actually write. Maybe you want to practice observational sketching. Maybe you’ve been trying to get your steps in but getting out of a cozy bed is too much work, or you’ve been wanting to explore new areas of parks but doing it alone is scary.

Whoever you are and whatever you’re trying to do – come join our club and let’s make this easier for ourselves! Designed to be flexible and low-effort, the Ink Trails Club is a place for us to make time for the creative habits we often put aside.

You may have heard about the theory that you need four types of hobbies to nourish the soul:
• Consume: Appreciate someone’s creative work
• Cavort: Move your body
• Create: Bring something to life
• Commune: Connect to your community

We’re doing it all with this club, with the intention to foster the ideal mindset for creativity. So don some comfy warm clothes, bring whatever book you’re reading, don’t forget a notebook & pen, and let’s practice moving slow together.

Key Details

When: October & November
Where: Trails across East GTA (Scarborough, Durham, Markham, North York, etc.)
Who: Open to everyone
Donation: $30*

*The suggested donation for joining the club is $30. If cost is a barrier, please pay what you can. All proceeds go towards the Seeds of Solidarity funding drive for farmers in Congo, Gaza, Sudan, Niger, and Cuba (more information below).

How It Works

Register to be added to the WhatsApp group, where meet-up details will be decided on and any updates sent. (If WhatsApp is not an option for you, we’ll also send an email.)

Club sessions will be weekly, usually on a weekend, depending on majority availability. Meet-up spots will mainly be trails and parks across the GTA East (Scarborough, Durham, Markham, North York). Join whichever sessions you’re able to!

Each session will be a couple of hours. We’ll begin with some quiet reading time (great for inspiration!), then a walk to get the mind moving, and end with some dedicated time to write (or sketch, if you’re more of a visual artist). You can bring a piece of writing you’ve been working on, write whatever comes to mind that day, or use some of the guided prompts we can bring as options. And if you’re not interested in writing or sketching (or perhaps not in the mood), feel free to use that time for more reading.

About Us

I’m Zujajah, founder of The Cedar Swing. I created this organization to connect the Muslim creative community with nature. I wanted to build anti-capitalist spaces for people to build community, restore their health and well-being through creativity, and participate in people and Earth care.

I aim to provide programming that helps our community buoy the part of themselves that feels awe and possibility. This is guided by the belief that soul revival and world change can happen when we combine a meaningful connection to nature, creativity, spirituality, and each other.

About The Fundraiser

All proceeds from this event will go to the Seeds of Solidarity funding drive to support community farmers resisting colonial oppressions in Congo, Gaza, Sudan, Niger, and Cuba. Here’s more information about each campaign:

Arduna, Gaza: A farming family in Gaza, aiming to break the siege on Gaza by growing food in Beit Lahia and supporting other farming families. Funding will support them in purchasing solar panels to help pump water, which will be used to water their seedlings and crops.

Pan-African Learning Centre & Garden, Congo: A collective in Tanganyika in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are working to develop a 4-hectare garden and learning hub to provide free, accessible education rooted in African history, unity and self-determination. Funding will support the purchase of materials and tools for the second phase of the centre’s development.

Collective of Afro-Cuban Farmers, Cuba: A group of Black farmers working to build capacity for food production in the face of crippling sanctions. Funding will help install irrigation systems and purchase solar-powered equipment. It will also create infrastructure to host aid brigades in the region.

Femmes Engagées pour la Sauvegarde de la Patrie, Niger: This organization has actively mobilized women across the country to participate in national defense efforts, support state sovereignty, and safeguard the nation. They are currently working to build food sovereignty. Funding will support the installation of irrigation of their farmlands and purchase materials to increase cultivation capacity.

We Must Plant, Sudan: A grassroots initiative by the Gezira and Managil Farmers’ Alliance and supported by the Sudanese Resistant Front and the Sudan Solidarity Collective, this campaign aims to reclaim Sudanese agricultural legacy and secure food sovereignty, an essential step in resisting the neo-colonial and imperialist forces that continue to exploit their land.
