Calling all gamers!
Welcome to the cell's first ever Game Makers in Residence Showcase! We will be playing all five games that were made this new initiative. Five game makers were selected from an application process and granted the resources to each create a game that you will be playing live at the cell! Everyone will have breaks throughout the day but make sure you arrive on time so we can start all the playtests together. If you just wanna watch, that’s fine—just RSVP through the appropriate ticket *Accessibility note: you will have to go up and down some flights of stairs in order to get to each game station.
Games allow us to play out potential risks, complex emotions and empathetic responses in a safe and creative space. Well-formed checks and balances allow any game to stay fresh and unpredictable. Each set of rules gives players the confines with which to explore new conditions and rewards. Each risk that is taken can help to build a narrative.
Player Indigo seeks to build on those foundations of gameplay. However it is each random or chosen decision that must provide elevated consequences and branching pathways. If these pathways are well-formed, the true reward is a novel experience.
Ramshackle Rockets by Andrew Menfi
A group of incompetent spacefarers with their poorly build spacecraft compete to deliver the most valuable cargo to their destination. This is assuming they don't lose their cargo to asteroids, aliens, broken down ships, and each other!
Fuzzy Borders by Andy Wallace
A life-sized game of expansion and negotiation. Players claim their space with giant carpet tiles and attempt to maneuver their way into creating the highest scoring shapes and patterns on the ground. Whether this is done through shrewd negotiation or simply putting your carpet on top of another player's is up to you!
In the Wake of the Wanton Wizard by Sharang Biswas
You’d think working for a Wizard would be fun, wouldn’t you? Instead, all you seem to be doing is cleaning up the messes he makes after his many ill-advised romantic dalliances. Can you keep the stories of the Wizard’s heartbreaking habits in check, while pursuing your own dreams?
Many Worlds by John Bezark
What is a Civilization? How does it change over time? How do the choices of one generation dictate the choices of the next generation? Many Worlds is a collaborative storytelling game which lets players explore these questions in a light and playful fashion. But make no mistake: your choices have consequences and they will ripple out through the ages.
Procession West by Hankins Feichter
The procession from this life to the next is not to be taken lightly. As we are seen and judged in life, so too are we in death. Play as one of 3-6 Arbiters in this game of guilt and innocence set on a ghost train headed west as you judge the souls of the dead. Are they innocent? Guilty? Tangle with the selfish desires and conflicting interests of your fellow Arbiters as the scales tip to one side or another. Good judgin', partner.
