On 3 September, MPs will come together for a Westminster Hall Debate on Global Biodiversity Loss, Ecosystem Collapse and National Security. This is a valuable opportunity to make sure they go into that debate hearing directly from the people and communities they represent.
Join Hope for the Future and The Climate Coalition for a practical 45-minute session on how to encourage your MP to attend the debate , and equip them with the stories, experiences and evidence they need to speak with confidence on behalf of their constituents.
We know that MPs are more likely to engage when they can see how an issue connects to the people and places they represent. Together, we'll explore how to turn your experience into a compelling invitation: whether that's a story about the nature you care about, the changes you're seeing locally, action happening in your community, or why protecting and restoring nature matters to you.
If you took part in Great Big Green Week this year, this is also an opportunity to bring that experience into Parliament. We want MPs to hear about the breadth of people taking action across the country: the events, conversations, community projects and local leadership demonstrating public support for a greener, healthier future.
During the session, you'll learn how to:
make a strong, personal approach to your MP ahead of the debate;
identify the story or message most likely to resonate with them;
give your MP useful material they can draw on if they attend and speak;
use your Great Big Green Week experience as evidence of local action and public support; and
build an interaction around the debate into a longer-term relationship with your MP.
We'll also be joined by a politician or parliamentary staffer (TBC) to hear first-hand what helps an invitation stand out, and what makes it easier for an MP to take their constituents' voices into Parliament.
Your MP has the platform. Help give them the story to tell.
