BOW DOWN - 7.30pm Show
The Commission for New and Old Art with the Art of Crime/Crime of Art Presents:
Bow Down
By Harrison Birtwistle and Tony Harrison.
First staged in 1977 at the National Theatre, Bow Down has become known as one of the outstanding works in the composer's music-theatre oeuvre. The tale is a version of the "Two Sisters" story, found in versions across the northern regions from Scandinavia to Northumberland to Newfoundland. Rarely performed, this production is the first since 2012, and the first ever to be mounted in England’s North.
Matthew Maroon will also give a presentation of ‘Solo 5’ by Reiner Bredemeyer (1977). Bredemeyer was the musical director of The Deutsches Theater concurrent to Harrison Birtwistle’s tenure at the National Theatre in London.
