Description
Get Ready to Groove with Bristol's Newest Choir!
Join us for a Special Launch Session
We're excited to introduce The Bristol Groove, a brand-new mixed voice choir bringing you the best of pop, jazz, and those irresistible rhythms that make you want to move. Under the dynamic leadership of musical director Beth Morgan, this choir is all about lush harmonies, infectious grooves, and a whole lot of fun.
Who We Are
The Bristol Groove is designed for singers in the Bristol, Bath, and surrounding areas who are ready to take their vocal skills to the next level. We focus on music with a strong sense of rhythm and groove, covering genres including, but not exclusively, gospel, jazz, disco, soul, and contemporary pop. If you've got a good ear for tuning, a solid sense of rhythm, and can hold your own in a group, this could be the choir for you!
What to Expect
- Weekly Rehearsals: Every Thursday night, 7:30-9pm at Fishponds Old Library Hall (BS16 3UH). Our sessions aren't just about learning notes—they're about developing musical independence, leadership, and a tight-knit ensemble. Expect vocal warm-ups, , body and vocal percussion, groove activities, and working on songs in 3-4 part harmony.
- Personal Practice: We expect you to come prepared, with your music learned and memorized as soon as possible after it's covered in rehearsal. This allows us to focus on refining our sound and performance skills.
- Performance Opportunities: We're aiming high! You'll be performing at festivals and local events, bringing our energetic repertoire to life. Participation in performances is a key part of being in the choir.
- Audition Process: A short, informal vocal test will be conducted during your Visit Session. In the following couple of sessions, you'll demonstrate your vocal range and ability to hold an independent part within a group. A strong sense of rhythm and willingness to engage with the music is more important than being able to read music. No longer than a fortnight after your Visit session, you'll demonstrate to the MD that you can sing your part independently with 1-2 other voice parts.
Join Us!
- Visit Session: This is a paid session where you can experience what we're all about. Our first Visit session is at our launch on Thursday 12th Sept.
- Auditions: Following the Visit Session, you will attend another couple of sessions. After your 3rd session with us, you'll be asked to complete the audition process. [Initially sessions will include audition slots - 19th and 26th Sept. Auditions after the 3rd Oct will be held outside of session time following your visit]
- Membership: If we’re a match, membership is £25/month, covering all sessions, resources, performances, and support. You will be asked to join following your visit session so that you can access choir resources. If your audition is unsuccessful, you will be refunded the first month payment minus the Visit session.
Debut Performance:
Mark your calendars for our debut performance on Friday, 13th December at Studio 54 in Wells.
