Our Deaf Awareness Training (DAT) is a valuable step for individuals, organisations, businesses, and educational settings aiming to become more inclusive and accessible. It enhances our understanding of Deaf awareness and Deaf culture, helping to break down communication barriers and foster respectful, supportive environments for D/deaf people.
The training provides practical skills for working with D/deaf people, including how to communicate clearly, use visual cues effectively, and avoid common misunderstandings. It also covers the importance of effective communication strategies—such as using plain English, maintaining eye contact, and being mindful of background noise.
The course will take place at the Halton Sensory Service office in Widnes (see address below) and is open to everyone. It’s an excellent starting point for anyone interested in progressing to learning British Sign Language (BSL).
