Relational Wilds: A Four Day Retreat in Group Dynamics & Dance Improvisation

This is a 4-day retreat for those interested in diving deep and playing in the murky pools of relationality and group dynamics. The relational field describes the space between our subjective experiences, where we dynamically become and channel something larger than ourselves: mysteries that defy description, influenced from our cultural legacies and personal histories, alchemizing in the foamy soup of differences between us. In most social circumstances we shy away from expressing the full palette of our feelings, thoughts and attitudes towards others. We do this attempting to nourish the safety of the connection, to mitigate harm to ourselves and the other. In doing so, we sacrifice exploring deeper dynamics buried within the relationship that can often lead to revelatory intimacies with self and other, and with the broader culture that expresses through us. This weekend we will explore the wider landscape of these group dynamics, navigating between the two poles of connection and presence. We will do so through more verbal technologies including Circling, Authentic Relating, and Psychodrama, and more nonverbal technologies including Contact Improv, Fool Expression, and Authentic Movement.

We ask that participants have some familiarity with expressive or movement arts practices, most importantly practices that explore movement in relation to others. Contact improvisation is a great example of this. Other practices may include: Butoh, Authentic Movement, physical theatre, 5Rhythms.

PRICE

Registration below is the base price for our program and includes all programmed activities and 3 meals per day for the weekend. Accommodations are priced separately, and range from $50 for camping, to $150 for shared room, to $200-300 for private rooms. Registration is tiered based on a sliding scale of income/subsistence:
