Venus Retrograde in Review: A Workshop for Integration
We’re usually sold two ways to handle the dark: numb out entirely. Or dive headfirst into the abyss, call it "shadow work," and fry our nervous systems for the next six months.
This workshop is a practice in a third way. When the mythic Inanna descended to the underworld, she didn’t arrive naked. She passed through seven gates, shedding one layer at a time. That’s titration, as it is called in the somatic healing world. Looking at the dark sideways, catching its reflection in the mirror rather than staring straight into the abyss, is somatic wisdom. It’s how we let the body digest the depths without getting swallowed by them.
Dolly Parton, may she rest in power, was a masterclass in pendulating between light and dark. She wrapped a mountain of generational grief and steely resolve in rhinestones and a five-inch heel. She knew that lightness and humor are the armor, the counterweight, that keep the heavy stuff from breaking you. Joy and eros are a requirement, not a bypass, when you're exploring the depths.
Venus has been unmooring us since early October, kicking up dust around our desires, relationships, and boundaries. Now, we’re taking an unhurried afternoon to sift through the rubble and the gold.
You will be guided by two well-traveled tour guides to the underworld, Chyanne Westlake LMT (calling on her 20-year experience as dancer and movement educator) and Lee-Ann Assalone, LSW (somatic social worker, cyclical culture worker). We are bringing our scars, our study, and a refusal to take ourselves too seriously. Through myth, movement, journaling, astrology, and storytelling, we’ll practice moving between tension and ease, so our bodies can integrate what our minds are still wrestling with. Activities, conversation, reflection. Snacks.
No prior experience with astrology or dance is needed. Come in your layers. Bring your curiosity and courage. Leave the pressure to "fix" yourself at the door.
