IAN RANKIN: The Heights

We are thrilled to be celebrating the Edinburgh launch of Number One bestseller and local celebrity Sir Ian Rankin's new novel The Heights at Assembly Rooms; the first Rankin novel since Midnight & Blue in 2024 and the first standalone in nearly two decades. Ian will be in conversation with arts writer and broadcaster Nicola Meighan.

This special evening event will take place in the beautiful Assembly Rooms, located on George Street in central Edinburgh. You will be able to collect your copy of the book (if you pre-order one with your ticket) from the venue on the night.

Doors will open at 6:45pm ahead of a 7:30pm start time. Please arrive in plenty of time so we can scan tickets, get everyone their books, and ensure enough time for all guests to find their seats. The talk will run from 7:30-8:30pm, with time for questions from the audience.

Books will be available to purchase before and after the event, and Ian will sign books at the end of the evening.  Edinburgh Bookshop staff will be assisting during the signing by putting a post-it note with each attendees name on the book they would like signed.

About our author:
Ian Rankin is the multimillion-copy worldwide bestseller of over thirty novels and creator of John Rebus. His books have been translated into thirty-six languages and have been adapted for radio, the stage and the screen. Rankin is the recipient of four Crime Writers' Association Dagger Awards, including the Diamond Dagger, the UK's most prestigious award for crime fiction. In the United States, he has won the celebrated Edgar Award and been shortlisted for the Anthony Award. In Europe, he has won Denmark's Palle Rosenkrantz Prize, the French Grand Prix du Roman Noir and the German Deutscher Krimipreis. 
 
He is the recipient of honorary degrees from universities across the UK, is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Edinburgh and a Fellow of The Royal Society of Literature, and has received an OBE for his services to literature. In 2022 he received a knighthood as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Nicola Meighan is an arts writer and broadcaster, who has interviewed guests like Dolly Parton, Patti Smith, Joan Collins and Maggie O'Farrell on her BBC Radio Scotland show (Friday Afternoons, 2-4pm), along with contributions to Radio 4, 6 Music, STV, The Herald and more. She also hosts Scottish culture and entertainment podcast, A Kick Up The Arts, in conversation with some of our best-loved names, including Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Del Amitri's Justin Currie, Barbara Dickson, Denise Mina, Chitra Ramaswamy and Deacon Blue.

The Assembly Rooms is committed to making everyone’s experience to our venue an enjoyable one.
The venue is fully accessible on the ground and first floor areas for all visitors with mobility difficulties and accessibility needs via a lift or handrail assistance. 
There is no lift to the 2nd floor and access is via steps only. 
On arrival to the venue via an automatic set of doors there is a reception desk to the left with a receptionist more than happy to offer any assistance you may need to help navigate the venue.  
Access into the venue is flat, with no steps.
