EFT and Shame – Kristin Panasewicz

Kristin is an Integrative Therapist who specialises in working with both shame and trauma. She is an Advanced EFT practitioner, a Clinical Hypnotherapist, certified Integrated Healer, and incorporates NLP and Somatic Stress Release into her practice. She is also a former Trustee of EFT International. Although she is based in London, Kristin’s sessions are held online as she works with clients on all continents.

Kristin describes her process of unlearning toxic shame as Shamework and believes that it is the most profound work we will ever do. Sources of shame can include (but are not limited to) trauma; abuse; military service; rape; assault; addiction; affairs; siblings; parental suicide; incarceration; family dysfunction; bullying; not living a traditional lifestyle; being childfree; political beliefs; kink; public shaming; being the child of immigrants; separation from parents at a young age; poverty; religion; sexual orientation; gender; Narcissistic parents; and ancestral/cultural trauma and shame.

Shame is the most viscerally felt emotion; it even has its own physical characteristics called the physiology of shame. When our internalized shame is activated by an external trigger, it often feels like our body shuts down. We experience a freeze-response which can look like brain fog; slouching; the desire to shrink or disappear; averted eye contact; and blushing / facial heat.

This contractive shut-down response is one of the things that make shame notoriously difficult to confront, even in a healing space. It’s also the reason Kristin believes EFT is the safest and most effective tool to use when working with shame in clients. In this talk Kristin will discuss:

· Why shame is so elusive, even in the therapeutic field

· How EFT allows us to safely approach shame
