As a trainee or qualified therapist, are you interested in practising and developing your creative skills? Do you have an interest in working creatively with children and young people?
This one day workshop will look at how, as therapists, we can effectively use the arts and play in our client work with children and young people.
The focus will be on the sand tray and nesting dolls. You will get the opportunity to practise your skills in a safe and supportive environment.
This experiential day will include:
- Gaining a theoretical and practical understanding of using creativity to work therapeutically
- Using the sand tray to explore the inner world
- Using Matryoshka (Russian) nesting dolls to explore the self
You will get the opportunity to practise your skills in a safe and supportive environment. And you will be able to take home your very own sand tray!
Facilitator: Helen Rowe MBACP
I am a child/adolescent psychotherapist and a relational adult counsellor, trained in trauma. I work both in person at York and online. I began my career as a special needs teacher and I have taught and managed in different schools and units with young people who have both physical and emotional special educational needs. My passion of working with these young people led me to train as a therapist. I work flexibly according to the developmental age and preferences of the client (from aged four onwards). So, with some clients, the focus will be predominantly talking and, with others, there will be a more creative approach with play and using the arts. I work with a variety of presentations, including childhood trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, addiction, sexuality, and gender. I have experience both in education and as a therapist in working with neurodiversity. I am a supervisor, having trained at the Ellesmere.
