Wounds before words
Wounds Before Words: The Body's Story of Preverbal Trauma
Thursday 4th September 2025
Friday 5th September 2025
9.30am - 4pm
A 2-Day Workshop Exploring the Somatic and Relational Dimensions of early-life experiences through theory and experiential practice.
About the Workshop
This experiential 2-day workshop provides an in-depth exploration of how preverbal trauma, from pre-birth, birth, and infancy, can shape a client's emotional and relational patterns. Through both theory and experiential exercises, we will learn how to attune to and support clients in reconnecting with their bodies and hearts, addressing the silent wounds that shape their emotional and relational worlds.
About the Trainer
Jessica works as a Relational and Developmental Psychotherapist in private practice in Staffordshire. She is a UKCP-qualified and accredited therapist with an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and extensive training in body-oriented therapies. Before training as a psychotherapist, she completed a BSc in complementary therapies with a focus on the ethical use of touch for people who have experienced developmental trauma.
She went on to work as a body-oriented therapist with adults and young people in NHS mental health hospitals for many years, discovering the profound effect that attuned, reparative touch can have in building secure relationships and meeting early developmental needs. She is passionate about integrating body work into psychotherapy practice. Her research, undertaken while training as a psychotherapist, focused on how therapists can work with the traumatised body to help clients uncover and connect with wounds, and physiological scripts (Erskine, 1980) that have origins from preverbal experiences.
Jessica is dedicated to helping people reconnect with parts of themselves that were wounded before they had words, enabling them to address trauma held in their bodies. At the heart of her work is the belief that true healing begins when the defences formed in response to early wounding soften, allowing love, connection, and the body to let go.
