Description
Working with Traumatic Stress
Date: 10th
February 2023 10am - 4.30pm
Facilitator: Dr Jennie Ormerod, Consultant Clinical Psychologist
The experience of trauma underlies many of the mental health presentations that we work with. Traumatic life events can have a significant impact on people’s lives particularly the way in which they can become stuck and go on affecting people’s daily lives for years after the events themselves have ended. Jennie currently works in the NHS and has experience working with people who have experienced multiple and complex traumatic life events usually involving interpersonal trauma, often with the origins beginning in childhood. Jennie works with domestic violence, sexual trauma, torture survivors, people held in captivity and military trauma as well as work with front line health professionals who encounter traumatic events at work.
The aims of this workshop are to:
- Enable you to better understand trauma and why it can become stuck utilising a neuropsychological model
- To understand how trauma may present and impact on individuals
- To consider the role of shame in trauma presentations
- To understand a framework for working with trauma
- To consider appropriate therapeutic techniques and interventions when working with trauma.
