Are you a student wanting to develop your counselling and therapy skills? If so, these skills practice sessions are for you. 

These skills practice sessions are an opportunity to join your peers and hone your skills as a developing therapist. We know that finding the opportunity for practice sessions is often challenging, so during these workshops there will be a chance to re-visit theory and plenty of time to make use of the counselling rooms within the building and work in triads to gain skills, valuable peer feedback and build practice hours.   

 During these sessions we will look at some of the challenges when working with clients in a clinical setting. We will discuss how theory can be applied in practice and we will explore topics in relation to working clinically with clients. 

Some of the topics that will be covered are:

General counselling skills, Note and record keeping, Use of language and Non-Verbal communication, Identifying Ego states, Boundaries, Building the therapeutic relationship/rapport, Contracting, Creativity, Self disclosure, The Drama triangle, Endings Planned and unplanned.

This session will be facilitated by Jo Gibson. Jo is part of the student support team here at ECPT and has a passion for supporting and facilitating the growth and development of others.

Please note - ECPT students may count each 30 minute practice piece towards practice hours to the maximum of 12 hours per year.
