Skill level: beginner. No sewing machine needed.
Lorna of Thread and Yarn is a sewist, knitter and natural dyer living in Stroud. She loves designing sewing patterns that are both beautiful and practical, often using up fabric scraps to create patchwork designs.
In this workshop you'll be hand-sewing one of Lorna's designs, the Apothecary Pocket. It's a tie-on pocket bag featuring an optional 'sawtooth star' quilt block. It's a fun and creative project!
This make was inspired by historic women's tie-on pockets, but they're just as useful today for storing knitting projects on the go, collecting garden flowers and herbs, or as a handy little bag.
Join us for a cosy day of hand-sewing, patchwork making and chats about historic pockets and more! Lorna will guide you through how to make the simple pocket shape, and the patchwork front. The bag will also be lined and has waist ties.
There's a choice between the patchwork star and a central patch. The star (see main pic) takes a bit more focus and you might not finish during the workshop, but it's a good intro to patchwork - or a central mushroom or rose patch, which is the more relaxed option and you can still practice patchwork. See pics below for reference.
What's included:
