Goldwork Embroidery Star

Workshop Description

If you love embroidery and have always wanted to try goldwork, this workshop is the perfect introduction. Goldwork is a beautiful and traditional embroidery technique that uses metallic threads to create rich, decorative designs. In this beginner-friendly session, you’ll be guided step by step through the basic tools, materials, and techniques needed to work with gold threads.

You’ll learn how to couch metallic threads and build texture while stitching a star design. This could become a brooch or a decoration.  No prior goldwork experience is needed, and all materials are provided.

Depending on how quickly you work, you can add more or less detail or potentially complete at home.

Bring a magnifying glass if you have trouble with your eyesight.

This workshop will be lead by the super talented Grace Gatley. Grace is a mixed-media embroidery artist fusing traditional techniques with contemporary design. Her work is inspired by heritage buildings, particularly churches and cathedrals, and the Arts and Crafts Movement.  Ornately carved masonry and Victorian stained glass lend pattern and palette to her practice, and she often works with botanical dyes and real flowers, preserving and reflecting fragile natural beauty in print and stitch as in carved stone.
