Join us in our light filled studio space for a six week Botanical Watercolour Course hosted by Gail Jones

Duration: 6 weeks. 2 hours per week starting from: Mon 14th September - Mon 19th October 2026, 7.00 -  9.00pm

Course Price per person: £295

Explore your creativity and learn to draw and paint beautiful botanicals with Gail. She will guide you through her process of watercolour painting with demonstrations and individual support in a relaxed and inspiring environment. A self taught fine artist Gail knows just how to make the art of watercolour accessible to everyone regardless of experience. Over a 6 week course, and working directly from the floral/plant, Gail will teach you how to compose, draw and paint in watercolour and create a beautiful work of art you will be truly proud of.

Gail’s artwork reflects a careful attention to detail, using light and shadow to create beautiful botanical paintings. Her layers of watercolour create richness and depth balanced by areas of simple pencil drawing and a thoughtful understanding of when to leave parts of the work untouched.

Course Description

This watercolour workshop is suitable for all abilities. Whether you are new to watercolours or looking to refine your skills. All materials are provided but please feel free to bring along your own too.

Week one: Drawing and Observation - Monday 14th September 7.00 - 9.00pm

We will be practicing our drawing skills and paying close attention to the light and shadows of the subject matter. Please bring any sketchbooks you have but if you haven’t started one, don’t worry,

Week two: Composition - Monday 21st September 7.00 - 9.00pm

This is an important and often overlooked part of creating art. We will be starting to draw out florals/plants and learning how to compose them on watercolour paper. Gail believes that if your drawing isn’t right in the first instance then you will never be happy with the final outcome once painted.

Week three: Watercolour painting techniques and colour - Monday 28th September 7.00 - 9.00pm

Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, we will look at different watercolour techniques including wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, layering, lifting and creating texture. We will also explore colour to develop an understanding of the light, mood and beauty of the flower/plant.

Weeks four- six: The final botanical painting - Monday 5th / 12th / 19th Oct - 7.00 - 9.00pm

In the fourth lesson we will start composing and drawing our final botanical painting on hot pressed watercolour paper. Lesson five and six will be spent painting the artwork.
