Cambridgeshire Autumn Wild Food Foraging Course/Walk

Fri 4 Oct 2024 12:00 PM - 3:30 PM BST Hinchingbrooke Country Park, PE29 6DB

The beautiful Hinchingbrooke Country Park, located in Huntingdon, is the perfect place to learn how to forage for edible mushrooms and plants growing in the UK. This foraging course is easy to get to from Peterborough, Northampton, Bedford, and Cambridge.

On this foraging course, you'll discover how to identify some commonly growing foods to forage for, how to avoid poisonous lookalikes, and hints on where to look.

When we meet up, we will go through the basics of foraging before heading out over the park's range of habitats, including woodland, hedgerows, watersides, parkland, and meadows.

The course includes:
- an overview of foraging laws and safety
- explaining sustainable and mindful practice
- exploration of the local species
- introduction to a number of edible species
- instruction on how to tell edible species apart from poisonous lookalikes
- information on where to find these species again
- recipe ideas
- wild food treats to sample
- digital information sheet after the course

Samples of tasty wild food treats can include soups, pestos, salts, pickles, syrups, cordials, jams, jellies, leathers, vinegars, and preserves, along the way. All are 100% plant/fungi-based or have a 100% plant/fungi-based alternative

Participants must be aged 18 or over - sorry, no children under 18 or babes in arms on this course

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on the course

Smoking is not permitted once the course has started.

Exact meet-up location and further information sent two days before the course date

Terms and conditions can be found on www.foragingcoursecompany.co.uk

We cannot guarantee what species will be growing on any given course date - this is the nature of foraging. As a rough guide, springtime and summer courses should be predominantly plant focused, with mushrooms sometimes found. Summer courses may also have fruits and flowers to learn about, with some mushrooms. Autumn courses should be more mushroom-focused than spring or summer courses but this is dependant on weather conditions preceding the course.

We do not harvest on this course. Any picking is for identification purposes only.
