Forget everything you think you know about fairies.

Long before they were painted as delicate little winged creatures, fairies were feared, respected and treated with extreme caution. They were blamed for sudden illness, disappearances, bad luck, strange lights, eerie music and all the things that seemed to happen just beyond the edge of human understanding.

On this atmospheric guided walk, you’ll step into the darker side of fairy folklore and explore the stories our ancestors told about the hidden beings believed to live in woods, fields, streams, pools, trees and lonely places.

Along the way, your guide will weave together history, folklore, humour and wonderfully creepy information to bring these old stories back to life. You’ll hear about dangerous water spirits, fairy trees, mushroom rings, changelings, curses, otherworldly music and the terrifying consequences of offending the fair folk.

This is not a children’s fairy tale. These are the older, stranger and far more unsettling beliefs that shaped how people once understood the landscape around them.

Perfect for lovers of folklore, history, ghost stories, dark tales, mythology and the weird side of the natural world, Scary Fairies offers a walk through the countryside with a distinctly eerie twist.

Join us for a fascinating, funny and spine-tingling journey into the places where folklore says the fairies still linger.

Edibility will not be a focus of this course - this is an education/entertainment walk not a foraging course
