East London Remembers - Walking Tour

Interred in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park are hundreds of people, soldiers and civilians, whose lives and deaths tragically intertwined with horrors of the First and Second World Wars.

Join the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park on a walking tour highlighting some of these stories. Reflecting on the legacy of these conflicts in East London, we will explore our diverse connections to events both close to home, such as the Bethnal Green tube disaster, and those further afield, such as the Zeebrugge Raid.

Much of the research behind this tour was painstakingly carried out by our dedicated volunteers as part of the Hidden Histories publication. Copies of this book, along with other merchandise, will be available to purchase from our shop after the tour.

ON THE DAY

Please arrive on time and go to the meeting area: the Cemetery Park Lodge (the red brick building on the left as you enter via our main gates on Southern Grove E3).

This event will last approximately 90 minutes and will cover a distance of up to 1 mile.

Access statement

• Most paths are wide and accessible, but sometimes we use smaller paths and traverse more difficult terrain. Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.
  

• The Cemetery Park Lodge is wheelchair accessible but please get in touch if you have any specific needs. If arranged in advance a motorised vehicle could drive onto the site but there is no general parking at the Cemetery Park. There is on-street parking in the nearby area.

• Accessible disabled toilet facilities are available. There is no adult changing table or hoist.

• We are able to offer baby changing facilities and we can provide a private space for breastfeeding on request.

• We aim to make our events as accessible as possible and are learning constantly how to do this better. If you would like to let us know about any specific requirements or access needs that you would like us to meet, or offer feedback on our accessibility arrangements, please email contact@fothcp.org. We want you to feel safe in nature.

Refund policy: If you tell us that you want to cancel your ticket, we will only give you a refund if you give a minimum of 72 hours notice before the start of the event.
