Overview: Forage at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park

Join Kenneth Greenway – wild food enthusiast, Come Dine with Me winner, author, and Cemetery Park Manager – for an inspiring urban foraging experience in one of London’s most biodiverse green spaces.

Forage London is a collective of independent foraging teachers working across the capital.

What to Expect

Your experience includes:

  • Welcome wild tea – Make your own wild herbal tea using plants foraged for your arrival.

  • Guided foraging walk – Learn to safely identify wild edible plants and taste a variety of samples along the way.

  • Foraging guidance – Including laws, ethics, sustainable harvesting and best practice.

  • Plant ID skills – Learn the key traits that help you identify useful and edible species.

  • Take-home samples – Bring home some ingredients to inspire your own wild food creations.

  • Expert Q&A – Plenty of time to ask Ken your wild food questions.

  • Resources & community – Hear about the best apps and foragers to follow online.

  • Dogs welcome (on leads).

  • Children aged 11 and under attend for free.

Before You Book

  • Do not attend if you or anyone in your household has COVID-19 symptoms.

  • Spaces are limited to 18 participants and walks often sell out. If the event is full, please join the waiting list as cancellations do occur.

  • If you’re cycling, please note that bikes must be secured outside the Lodge; we cannot offer indoor storage.

Meeting Point

The Cemetery Park Lodge
A red brick building directly in front of you as you enter via the main gates on Southern Grove, E3 4PX.

What to Bring

  • Closed, comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

  • Your own snacks and drinks, including plenty of water (refills available).

  • Notebook and pen (optional) or use your phone for notes/photos.

  • A small bag for any samples.

  • Essential items only – storage at the Lodge is limited, and valuables are not advised.

  • Access to toilets is provided inside the Lodge.

On the Day

Please arrive on time and head to the meeting point at the Cemetery Park Lodge.

Accessibility Information

We aim to make our walks as inclusive as possible.

  • Total distance: 1–2 km

  • Paths: 1–2 m wide, mostly hard-packed crushed concrete fine or earth.

  • Some off-path areas may be uneven.

  • A full circular route is approx. 1 km with one steeper slope and several shallow slopes.

  • Two areas include steps, but these can be avoided.

  • Benches with backs are available throughout the site.

  • Some areas offer shade.

  • On-street parking on Southern Grove is unrestricted on weekends.

  • With advance arrangement, motorised vehicle access can be provided for mobility needs.

  • BSL or other interpretation can be arranged with at least 2 weeks’ notice (subject to availability).

  • Toilets available; no adult changing table or hoist.

  • Baby changing and a private space for breastfeeding can be provided.

  • A private space for prayer can be arranged on request.

Refund Policy

Refunds are available if requested at least 14 days before the event starts.

Fees

  • £50 – Standard

  • £40 – Concession

  • £25 – Unwaged**

Concessions and unwaged are available (no proof required) for:

  • People receiving Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income Support or Jobseekers Allowance

  • Full-time students

  • Children aged 12–18

  • People with disabilities receiving PIP
