First Thursdays is a free monthly evening of films, readings and talks about nature, place and conservation, hosted by the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park at the Soanes Centre, inside the Cemetery Park. No cost, just good company and conversation.

On Thursday 5 November at 6:30pm, join us for a screening of Pakistan on the Edge: The World's Climate Warning, a powerful new 40 minute documentary created by Muslim Aid, and presented by BBC journalist and filmmaker Kawser Quamer.

Pakistan is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, despite contributing less than 1% of global emissions. In recent years, devastating floods, extreme heatwaves and rising sea levels have transformed lives and landscapes across the country.

But this is not simply a story about climate disaster.

Travelling from the flood-affected south to the mountainous north, the film follows families, farmers and fishing communities rebuilding their lives in the face of growing environmental challenges. Through their stories, Pakistan on the Edge reveals practical, community-led solutions that are already helping people adapt and thrive, from climate-smart housing and solar energy to mangrove restoration and local flood warning systems.

The film explores some of the biggest questions facing our world today:

🌍 Who bears the cost of climate change?

🌊 How can communities prepare for increasingly extreme weather?

🏘️ What can be done to protect lives and livelihoods before disaster strikes?

💡 Are affordable, effective climate solutions already within reach?

As world leaders prepare for the next global climate summit, this documentary offers a hopeful and thought-provoking look at how communities on the frontlines of climate change are creating solutions that could inspire action around the world.

There will be an additional short film shared from Bangladesh, followed by a facilitated discussion exploring climate justice, resilience, and what we can learn from the experiences of communities living with the realities of a changing climate.
