Plant Prints: Cemetery Park Online
Mon 23 Nov 2020 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
These online talks are free, however, we're asking you to donate if you can at the checkout. Thank you for your support.
Join Tim Boddy, a documentary photographer based in Bow in Tower Hamlets, to hear about his most recent project made in lockdown: Covid-19 Plant Prints. Tim created images using plant juice via an alternative (and impermanent) photography process known an anthotypes.
These anthotypes come to life via the photo-sensitive properties of plants and vegetables, as the sun’s UV rays react with plant juice painted onto paper or any absorbent material. Some of the materials used were even found in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park itself! Beetroot, rainbow chard, spinach, and even red wine were materials used as the paint, while weeds such as Cow Parsley and Meadow Buttercup leaf were picked to form impressions.
During this talk you will learn about the unique history of this process (invented in the very early days of photography circa mid-1800's), and tips on how to create these colourful prints. Tim will also talk about the ideas behind this project, which were born out of a need to manage mental health in a deeply uncertain time.
*These online talks are not delivered in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. We are delivering them from our homes using Zoom.*
