Tockett's Mill visit (optional catch-up) (YGA and others!)
Sat 24 Aug 2024 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Tockett's Mill, Guisborough, TS14 6QA
Description
Tockett's Mill is an old water mill that has been lovingly restored over many decades by a dedicated team of volunteers. It opens throughout the year for milling days, where members of the public are invited to learn more about the process of producing bread from wheat, and the heritage of cereal production in the Teesside/North Yorkshire Moors area.
Our visit is for members of the Yorkshire Grain Alliance, and other local growers and bakers exclusively (no public!) We will be shown around the mill and some of the collection of historic artefacts. Volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about the restoration too. This part of the visit will probably take a couple of hours.
There is a restaurant next door where we could share some lunch after and/or meet after for an update and to share news and a cuppa at a local village hall. Please choose the appropriate ticket type.
More info about the mill here.
*Please note - the mill is very floury and the dust may cause breathing difficulties in some people. And access is restricted in some places (steep steps, narrow and low doors), meaning it may be challenging for people with mobility difficulties*
Recommended optional donation for the mill visit - £3 (to be returned to the volunteers at the mill) that can be paid here, or on the day in cash. (But please do not let cost be a barrier to coming along!) The cost of the meal is not included - booking details to follow.
