'Beyond the Bubble': Social Justice and the Role of Wellness

Wellness is often seen as a personal place of escapism, a bubble of calm in a chaotic world. But what happens when we look beyond that bubble? How can the practices that nourish us also contribute to inclusion, equity, and collective support and care?

Join us, as part of the Brighton Wellness Festival - for a powerful evening of somatic, embodied movement to shake off the funk, get into our bodies and the sanctuary space of Flow State, before we all straddle a bolster or sink into a blanket and delve deep into conversation exploring the intersections of wellness and social justice, by soft candlelight with teas and nibbles.

Our panel of diverse practitioners will share stories, challenges, and insights on making wellness accessible and relevant in today’s divided climate — and ask how “well” the wellness industry really is, beyond the surface of Lulu’s, matcha lattes, and perfectly timed om’s.

Deanne will host the open conversation and will be joined by her Flow State co-founder; Calli Popham, fellow teacher; Georgie Edwards, Brighton Wellness Festival founder; Natasha Jackson and Megan Cooper; trauma informed coach and activist.

Together, we’ll ask:

  • How can wellness spaces move from exclusivity to true inclusivity?
  • Wellness often gets painted as individual and apolitical. But in today’s climate, what role do practitioners have to play in wider conversations about social justice and equity? Is it enough to ‘stay in our lane’ — or is wellness inseparable from justice?
  • How do we care for ourselves while caring for our communities?

This is an invitation to move outside the lines, step beyond the bubble in a quest to see wellness not just as self-care, but as a force for connection, resilience, and seismic change.

Join the movement on Thursday 2nd October. 6.30pm - 9pm.

General Gather tickets are £16.50, with the option to pay it forwards at £20 for those that are able to and a small number of supported tickets at £10 for those less able to financially commit.
