Breathwork for Trans Liberation 2026
I created Breathwork for Trans Liberation in 2024 so trans folks could have a space where to be free from the burden of cisgender anxieties. Where we could breathe together, could hold one another, and could experience being held. I created a space where trans people don't have to answer inane questions about their gender, where no one is expected or assumed to conform to any particular gender, where you show up exactly where you are, and where you begin (or continue) to cultivate a relationship with yourself that exists beyond the projections of others.
Breathwork for Trans Liberation has been a vital space of safety and connection for many trans folks, and now, we're back! In 2026, we will again join together the 3rd Tuesday evening of each month (5:30 - 7:00 pm PT) for a brave space where we can bring our whole selves. There will be time to share with one another, time to breathe together, and time to reflect on our experiences with the breath. This space is closed to all cis people, and lovingly open to all those who are trans, non-binary, and gender explorers/queerers/fuckers of all types.
Please Note: beginners are always welcome. Even if you have never done breathwork before, that's ok. I explain the breath pattern we use every meeting, and there is always space to ask questions. You can also learn more by reading the waiver.
Those who attend will be accountable to themselves and to the community for upholding the integrity of the space as a container for what I call "transimaginality*" - the sacred, the liminal, the divine nature of transness and the wisdom and knowledge that it brings to us via lived experience and deep reflection. Transimaginality looks to transness not as one experience that imparts one knowledge, but as a multiplicity of experiences that hold within themselves all the raw matter of life. Transimaginality finds joy in indefinability, and celebrates the nature of the cracks between spaces. If we wish to dream a better world, the many facets of transness hold the substance and the shape of all those dreams in the realm of the liminal.
(*"transimaginality" is a word that my partner, joon seo lee, created when I told him that I believed that trans people are the imaginal cells of humanity. We have since used this word to capture transness-as-a-spiritual-practice, and all that this entails)
Agenda:
In Breathwork for Trans Liberation, we will explore these ideas together, a little bit each month. The sessions will go as follows:
- Opening the space
- Sharing and connection/intention setting
- Breathwork
- Reflections
- Closing the space
Meetings tend to vary a bit in length, from 90 to 120 minutes or so, with 25-30 minutes of active breathwork, and 10 minutes of integration.
You can join for one meeting, or join every month! The timing and duration of meetings is subject to change based on community needs. Once you've signed up, you will see the waiver on the confirmation page. Please read this information in it's entirety, and feel free to email me with any questions.
Prices and Scholarships:
These sessions are made to be as financially accessible as possible. They are sliding scale, with prices set at $12 for folks who are struggling financially and do not have a disposable income, $25 for folks who are able to meet their basic needs each month, and $40 for folks who would like to pay it forward. If you're not sure where you land on the sliding scale, please see this graphic from Alexis J. Cunningfolk.
Scholarships are available each month by request. If you need a scholarship, email me. I do not need any information about your financial situation - this is an honor system. You can request a scholarship by emailing: hello@thegenderdoula.com. There will also be an opportunity to contribute to the scholarship fund when folks purchase tickets.
Recordings:
All sessions will be recorded, and the recording will be available (but not downloadable) until the following month's session. Recordings will be sent to all ticket holders no more than 2 business days after the event.
Waivers & Terms:
You will be required to sign a waiver. You can read that waiver here.
