The Green Estate is celebrating National Meadows Day on Sunday 5 July with the return of Marvellous Meadows!

This is the one event of the year where we open up our entire site to the public. On the day, you will be able to:

  • Enjoy exclusive access across our beautiful Manor Lane site
  • Go on expert-led tours of Sheffield Manor Lodge and the Pictorial Meadows® trial fields
  • Take part in fun meadow-themed activities at the Discovery Centre
  • Meet The Green Estate’s staff, volunteers and partners we’re working with across our site
  • Find out more about The Green Estate’s work to grow green and resilient urban places for people and nature to thrive


Guided tours

There are a limited number of spaces on these expert-led specialist site tours, so booking is advised.

History Tours at Sheffield Manor Lodge
1.5-hour tours led by Dr Hannah Wallace from the The Green Estate and David Templeman from the Friends of Sheffield Manor Lodge.
Tours start at 10:30am and 1:30pm.

Pictorial Meadows® Trial Field Tours
1.5-hour tours led by Owen Hayman, Horticulture Innovation Manager at The Green Estate.
Tours start at 10:30am and 1:30pm.

Botany Tour at Sheffield Manor Lodge
A 1.5-hour tour led by plant expert Gerry Firkins.
Tour starts at 11am.

Self-led tours

Enjoy a self-led tour of The Green Estate with our site map, which highlights key areas of interest. You will be able to pick up a printed copy of the site map upon your arrival from a member of staff.

Getting here

This event takes place across our whole site along Manor Lane.

Travelling on foot

We are around a 40 minute walk from Sheffield train station. If you are walking from here, you could admire our meadows and maintenance at Park Hill on the way to see us.

Travelling by public transport

Harborough Avenue buses 24 and 25 plus a short walk
Manor Lane buses 10 and 56 plus a short walk
City Road buses 7, 8, 50, 73 and 120 plus a short walk
Tram (blue route) to Spring Lane/City Road (+ 1 mile walk via Manor Fields Park)
Tram (yellow route) to Cricket Inn Road (+ 1 mile walk via Maltravers Road to Manor Lane)

Travelling by car

Free visitor parking is available at Manor Oaks House and Sheffield Manor Lodge – please donate if you can.
Additional roadside parking is also available.

Where can I purchase food/drinks?

Food will be served inside Manor Oaks House, and you will be able to purchase drinks at the bar.

The Rhubarb Shed Café near Manor Oaks House will be open from 10am, however we strongly recommend booking a table in advance as it can get very busy. You can book a table by calling 07375 366 429.

Drinks, snacks and Our Cow Molly ice cream will also be available to purchase at the Discovery Centre, and you are very welcome to have a picnic in our grounds.
