The Green Screen: SEED The Untold Story

The Green Screen is our regular community film night exploring ecology, sustainability and justice.

SEED: The Untold Story follows passionate seed keepers, farmers, scientists and indigenous communities around the world who are working to protect our ancient food heritage and the incredible diversity of seeds that sustain us.

The film explores the importance of seed diversity, traditional seed-keeping knowledge, the industrialisation of agriculture and the growing corporate control of our food system. In less than a century, an estimated 94% of our seed varieties have disappeared, leaving our food systems increasingly dependent on a small number of commercially controlled varieties.

Through inspiring stories from seed keepers and activists around the world, including Vandana Shiva, Dr Jane Goodall and indigenous seed guardians, the film reveals the vital connection between seeds, biodiversity, culture and food sovereignty. It follows a David-and-Goliath struggle to protect seeds from extinction and preserve the knowledge and traditions that have been passed down through generations.

As we face climate disruption, biodiversity loss and an increasingly fragile global food system, SEED: The Untold Story asks us to consider who controls the seeds, what we stand to lose when diversity disappears, and how we can reclaim our connection to the source of our food.

This is both a warning and a hopeful call to action — celebrating the people who are saving seeds, restoring biodiversity and working towards a more resilient and sustainable food system.
